The Gnat and The Bull
By Aesop
A Gnat flew over the meadow with much buzzing for so small a creature and settled on the tip of one of the horns of a Bull. After he had rested a short time, he made ready to fly away. But before he left he begged the Bull’s pardon for having used his horn for a resting place.
“You must be very glad to have me go now,” he said.
“It’s all the same to me,” replied the Bull. “I did not even know you were there.”
We are often of greater importance in our own eyes than in the eyes of our neighbor.
The smaller the mind the greater the conceit.
Moral of the Story:
It’s important to remember that we are not always as important to others as we think we are. Just like the gnat who believed the bull would care about his presence, sometimes we might think too highly of our actions or words. We should be humble and understand that not everything revolves around us.
True wisdom comes from realizing our place in the world and being modest about our importance. When we think less of ourselves and more about others, we learn to live with kindness and understanding. So, be humble, and don’t overestimate your own significance.
